Uli Kazmaier

Professor of Organic Chemistry,
University of Saarland, Saarbrucken, Germany

Professor Kazmaier’s knowledge and expertise in asymmetric synthesis will play a vital role in advancing Cambridge Major’s exploration and development of chiral compounds including amino acids and rare sugars for use in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.

Professor Kazmaier’s research focuses on the development of new synthetic methodologies based on metal-assisted molecular rearrangements. In addition his research includes various asymmetric synthetic approaches including chelated ester enolates, ester enolate Claisen Rearrangements, Asymmetric Claisen Rearrangements, amino acid side-chain modifications, synthesis of Cyclopeptides, and synthesis of rare Azasugars as potential Glycosidase Inhibitors.

Professor Kazmaier received his Ph.D. under Professor Schmidt from the University of Stuttgart focusing on the Asymmetric Synthesis of Amino Acids. He performed his post-doctoral studies with Professor Barry Trost, Stanford University, and his Inaugural Thesis at the University of Heidelberg, Germany in the lab of Prof. Helmchen on Asymmetric Synthesis and Palladium Assisted Rearrangements of Amino Acids. Currently Professor Kazmaier is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Saarland, Saarbrucken, Germany.
