Cambridge Major Appoints Professor Tadeusz F. Molinski as Scientific Advisor
Expertise in the Synthesis of Novel Therapeutics Incorporating Oxazole Gives CML a Head Start in Identification and Development of New Oxazole Building Blocks
February 24, 2003 Germantown, WI USA: Cambridge Major Laboratories announces the appointment of University of California (Davis) Professor Tadeusz Molinski as Scientific Advisor. Professor Molinski’s knowledge and expertise in Oxazole chemistry will play a vital role in advancing Cambridge Major’s exploration and development of novel oxazole derivatives for use in biologically active compounds.
Professor Molinski’s research focuses on the chemistry and bioorganic chemistry of marine natural products with novel structural and biological properties. Professor Molinski has performed work in the total synthesis of marine natural products including Bengazole, a potent antifungal agent, in which Oxazole is incorporated at two points in the molecule. His work also involves the isolation and characterization of Phorboxazole, a novel anti-tumor cytostatic agent incorporating oxazole at two positions.
“We are confident that professor Molinski’s expertise will significantly help us to expedite the synthesis of the originally identified targets and, even to a larger degree, help us in identification and synthesis of the second generation oxazole derivatives”, said Dr. Michael Major, President and CEO of Cambridge Major. The addition of Professor Molinski underscores our commitment to scientific excellence, and also our desire to provide our life science customers innovative yet practical chemistries that work.”
Professor Molinski received his B.S. from Monash University in 1979, and received the Commonwealth Postgraduate Research Award in 1980. After receiving his Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 1984, he performed as a Postdoctoral Fellow at UC San Diego from 1984-87, as well as at the University of Utah, 1987-88. In 1989 he was appointed to faculty, UC Davis, received the American Cyanamid Faculty Award in 1994, and his Professorship in 1997.
