Cambridge Major Appoints Professor Victor Snieckus as Scientific Advisor
Expert in Heterocycles will Add to CML's Core Chemistry Capability
May 19, 2003 Germantown, WI USA: Cambridge Major Laboratories announces the appointment of Queens University (Kingston, Ontario) Professor Victor Snieckus as Scientific Advisor. Professor Snieckus’ knowledge and expertise in heterocyclic and organometallic chemistry will play a vital role in advancing Cambridge Major’s exploration and development of a wide range of key heterocycle intermediates for use in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.
Professor Snieckus' research focuses on the development of new synthetic methodology based on the Directed ortho Metalation (DoM) reaction and its links with modern transition metal catalyzed processes. His contributions range from discovery of new carbanionic aromatic chemistry to new protocols for the synthesis of heterocycles (in particular indoles, pyridines) and the construction of heteroaromatic natural products (e.g. alkaloids, antibiotics, antitumor agents)
“We are delighted to have professor Snieckus join our technical team as an advisor. His expertise will significantly help us to expedite synthesis of a wide range of pharmacologically active substances and their key intermediates”, said Dr. Michael Major, President and CEO of Cambridge Major. “In particular it allows for instant evaluation of new potential synthetic routes to help solve our customer’s most difficult challenges. The addition of Professor Snieckus underscores our commitment to scientific excellence, and also our desire to provide our life science customers innovative yet practical chemistry that works.”
Professor Snieckus received his B.Sc. (Honors) from the University of Alberta and his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. In 1998, he moved from the University of Waterloo to Queen's University where he holds the Bader Chair in Organic Chemistry. He is a recent recipient of the ACS Cope Scholar Award, the International Society for Heterocyclic Chemistry Award, and the Arfvedson - Schlenk Award.
